Elephant Safari Guide

Elephant Safari
One of the Big Five in Africa is the elephant. Although not as seemingly dangerous as lion or leopard, the elephant can be a dangerous adversary when provoked. These huge animals are family oriented and travel in herds. Elephant safaris are an amazing way to get to know these amazing animals on a more personal scale. Africa is also home to several Elephant Back Safari companies, which allows guests to sit back and enjoy an elevated view of the wilderness. These take place in places such as the Abu Camp in Botswana and at Victoria Falls at the Zambezi Elephant Trails. The Zambezi River is a popular place for elephant herds to take a break from the heat of the day. However, the largest numbers of elephants in the world reside at the Gorah Elephant Camp in Addo Elephant Park in South Africa. Here, safari goers can witness huge herds of elephants on foot, in vehicles, or on horseback. Many agencies have tailor made safari packages for those who love these giant creatures that aren’t well known to tourists. For example, Elephant Coast in South Africa is a little known elephant sanctuary not far from the city of Durban. Tembe Elephant Park in South Africa is at the center of Elephant Coast and offers visitors lodging and the chance to live amidst the elephants in their natural setting. Great geography for elephant spotting includes sand forest, woodland, grassland and swampland. Areas overlooking watering holes are also great for viewing these creatures.
