Kenya Safari
Kenya is the most famous and most popular African safari destination. Legends like Ernest Hemingway, Karen Blixen and Beryl Markham recognized the beauty of the region's contrasting geographies, which make for an amazing array of wildlife. Kenya is home to a range of national parks which accommodate wildlife such as lions, zebra, rhino, bongo antelope, black and white colobus monkeys and gerenuk. Contrasting geographies are apparent at Tsavo National Park, where the main road splits into Tsavo East and Tsavo West. The Eastern part is dry and flat while the Western section offers volcanic mountains and hills and outcrops with amazing views. The Kenyan Coast is also a famous destination for travelers from around the world. Here, the wilderness of the terrain meets the wilderness of the ocean as this ancient area exposes beautiful coral reef and a wide array of marine life. The are also includes Lamu and Mombasa, traditional markets that have been in operation for over 400 years. Visitors can surf, swim and sail in the warm waters of the Indian Ocean or visit Lamu Island, a wonderful tropical getaway with white, sandy beaches. Kenya is also home to The Great Rift Valley, home to the most varied and dramatic landscape on the continent. The region includes Lake Nukuru, a shallow lake that is perfect for birdwatchers. The area is home to the Kenyan Rhino Conservation Project and is famous for its amazing flamingo population. Another popular destination in The Great Rift Valley is Naivasha, the second largest freshwater lake in Kenya. A popular recreational destination for locals and known as a bird watcher's paradise, Naivasha is a must visit. Looking for a getaway from the wild? Nairobi is a great stop for those who want to stretch out in air conditioned hotels or develop their safari pictures. Although a bustling metropolis, beautiful landscape and flowering gardens give the area a touch of exotic beauty.
Kenya undergoes a rainy season which includes 'long rains' from April to June and 'short rains' from October to December. Great hotels to visit include the Kenya Bay Beach, Mount Kenya Safari Club and the Kenya Court Guest House.
