Kilimanjaro Safari
A Kilimanjaro safari involves climbing Mount Kilimanjaro with a group of climbers using either the Marangu, Machame, Rongai, Umbwe, Shira or Londorosi route. Located in Tanzania, Mount Kilimanjaro is the highest mountain in Africa and invites many visitors to Tanzania to take their shot at reaching Uhuru Peak. The longest routes are the Shira and the Northern Circuit route, which take about 8 days but offer spectacular views of the countryside. The longer routes also offer a better chance for visitors not used to climbing to get used to the air pressure. If carrying camping equipment up a mountain isn’t your idea of fun, some packages include porters who travel with you and your guide carrying stoves, tents and food while you carry a light day pack. Climbing the mountain in this fashion offers adventurers the chance to feel the freedom of the wilderness beneath their feet and over their shoulders. At 5,895 meters above sea level, the views from the summit can be breathtaking and may reach about 320 kilometers on clear days. The best time for climbing is January to mid-March and mid-Junes to October.
Hotels to consider include the Kilimanjaro Hotel, the Ameg Lodge Kilimanjaro Ltd. And the Kilimanjaro Hotel Kempinski. The Kilimanjaro Hotel caters primarily to Germans and is clean, pleasant and a great place to enjoy veal. Ameg Lodge Kilimanjaro Ltd is a basic yet pleasant hotel located within a walled compound that offers security and peace of mind to visitors to Tanzania. A friendly staff rounds out a pleasant stay.
