Leopard Safari
Leopards are one of the most difficult creatures to spot while on safari because of the fact that they are nocturnal animals who can climb high trees. One of the best places to see leopards on safari is in the Lerai Forest in Tanzania. Tanzania has several geographically diverse national parks, such as Lake Manyara and Arusha National Parks, which make leopard spotting more likely. Ruaha National Park has a huge leopard population as well. South Luangwa in Zambia is also known as one of the best places to see leopard in all of Africa. Walking safaris in it’s Mfuwe area make it possible to spot these clever animals although night drives are the best way to see leopard. Chobe National Park in Botswana is another popular leopard spotting destination. In daylight, leopard can be spotted amidst open grassland and scrub, riverine woodland and rocky hill country. Dry areas of the country are more likely to be home to these elegant creatures. Although leopard are known to pounce on prey such as large antelope, their more usual diet consists of insects, rodents and birds. Left over meat from a kill is usually stored under dense bush, between rocks or in trees to keep away other predators. Rotten carcasses are no problem for these animals. Usually solitary animals, leopards get into twos when mating. Females are usually accompanied by her cubs. Although leopards have been known to attack humans but only when it is feeling trapped or threatened or it has been wounded. Otherwise, leopards shy away from confrontation.
