Photo Safari
Photography in the wild is more than just pointing and shooting. It takes a certain amount of cleverness and luck to really capture those shots of a lifetime. Cheetah, for example, are extremely low in numbers in the wild and difficult to spot let alone shoot. They reside in the African wild in places such as the Masai Mara, the Serengeti, Kruger National Park, Namibia and Botswana. Knowing the characteristics and traits of the animals you are trying to shoot can provide you with information leading to that perfect shot. For example, cheetahs are very territorial and it’s a safe bet that if you hang around their area for a while, they will come sniffing around. Patience is always key when going on a photo safari, especially with lions. Reputed to sleep for almost 20 hours a day, luck, patience and camera readiness play a key role in snapping amazing lion pictures. Some animals, such as elephant, become lively and more exciting in and around water. Leopards love to hang out on the branches of large trees, particularly in the South Luangwa National Park in Zambia. Uganda and Rwanda are the best places to spot and shoot primates such as gorillas, baboons and chimps. Although primates are plentiful in Africa, they usually are found in dense forest and can be difficult to see. The best way to shoot crocodile on safari is to hang out near a water hole where they are reputed to have been spotted. Getting a good picture of a crocodile chasing or doing anything besides lying around are hard, but patience is again key, as it is for all wildlife photos, to obtaining that once in a lifetime picture.
